Youth for Human Rights BC Walks for Poverty

Vancouver, 14 October 2006: Members of the British Columbia chapter of Youth for Human Rights International participated in Vancouver's annual "Walk for Poverty." They also manned a booth after the walk in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery to spread the word on the need for human rights education to be taught in Canadian schools. Several hundred individuals obtained copies of the "What are Human Rights?" booklets for youth, outlining the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights in language young people can understand. Human Rights at CommFest

Toronto, 29 September 2006: Noel Farrel, artistic director and writer along with Judith Schwyter, Youth for Human Rights spokesperson, stand by as Juno award-winner, Liberty Silver, signs a petition to implement the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) during this weekend’s Community Film Festival (COMMFEST) gala and film screening.

The petition calls upon the government of this nation to make this declaration widely known to its citizens and to strive by teaching and education to promote respect for the 30 basic human rights contained in it. As humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard stated, “Human Rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream”.

Human rights film UNITED, produced by YHRI, was shown along with other film screenings and depicts an inner city kid with a heart for basketball who rallies the people of the world to fight for his right to play as one of the 30 basic human rights under the UDHR.
